Blouberg International School learner in National Sailing Championships
Patrick Kessel (Year 9) and his crew mate took part in the 29er Nationals in Mossel Bay earlier this year. A fleet of 10 boats from all over South Africa sailed the 4-day 15 races regatta. It was a close and hard fought regatta in which Patrick and his crew mate finished 3rd overall, one point short of 2nd place.
Patrick and his crew mate have been sailing together for only 6 months, coming from an Optimist and Dabchick background. The 29er is a two-person high performance sailing skiff. It is derived from the 49er Olympic class and raced in the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships.
Currently, Patrick and his crew mate are in Germany taking part in Kiel Week, one of the biggest sailing events in the World. After Kiel week, they are going to sail the 29er European Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark.
We wish them the best of luck!
